Monteith Salmon Lures

Goldstrike

21g

Traditional salmon lure colours of 'black & gold', highly effective throughout the season and especially during the Spring months

About This Lure

The ‘Goldstrike’ salmon lure was designed to maintain the effective traditional salmon lure colours of 'black & gold' with the added value of an orange belly. Perfect for bright or clouded light fishing days or for slightly tainted post or pre-flood water as the mild holographic gold flanks with orange belly won’t go unnoticed in such conditions. This lure was inspired due to the lack of modern-day salmon lure designs and to 'completely inspire’ anglers who enjoy spin fishing for salmon. The ‘lifelike' swim action of this lure will significantly enhance the possibility of a ‘predatory' sub-surface attack. This is NOT a repurposed bass jerkbait lure nor is there any guesswork associated with this salmon lure's colour combination. This lure has been meticulously designed & tested for salmon anglers by renowned salmon fishing ’specialist’ Jock Monteith. This lure weighs in at 21g to create optimal stream ‘castability’ with braid or monofilament line and to be fishable on both medium & large sized salmon rivers. The dual colour 'red & copper' flashing tail fin feature has been purposely designed to induce solid takes from inquisitive salmon that are tailing the lure. The double split ring feature positions the lure's BKK No.4 treble hook perfectly in the underside centre area of the lure which remains stable during the retrieve for an effective ‘hook up’ ratio.

How To Fish

This lure should be fished with an initial 'tightish' clutch setting (to set the hook properly) then loosen off the reel clutch to play the fish. In faster streams this lure can be fished around with only line tension without a steady retrieve (until nearing the end) or in slower moving pools it can be fished with a slightly upstream 'squarish' cast paired with a steady retrieve to create a perfect 'not too fast & not too slow' curving swing. In deeper salmon pools when fish are holding deep this lure can be counted down for 2 - 6 seconds (depending on the pool depth) for a deeper lure swim retrieve. The key for effective spin fishing water coverage is to make sure the angle and distance of cast are consistent throughout the full fishing day and as importantly, making sure each casting position is separated by 1 x 10ft rod length while fishing downstream (or upstream). It is really your boots that catch salmon while spin fishing if you think closely about it as good riverbank movement equates to ‘effective' water coverage which is the real key for success in all salmon fishing approaches.
