Monteith Salmon Lures

Parramedic

21g

Replicates a mature salmon parr, a natural prey for large resident cannibal brown trout that can no longer sustain themselves on invertebrates

About This Lure

The ‘Parramedic’ lure was designed to raise trout-predation awareness within the salmon angling community. Heavyweight trout often feed on juvenile salmon (parr), and where permitted, anglers can use this lure to help monitor or manage such activity in balance with local conservation policies. This lure replicates a mature salmon parr, a natural prey form for large resident trout that no longer feed ‘predominantly' on invertebrates. Be aware that double figure trout exist in all major Scottish rivers therefore suitable spin fishing kit is always recommended. Always use within open season and in accordance with local fishery regulations. This is NOT a repurposed bass jerkbait lure nor a crude imitation of another trout prey species. This lure weighs in at 21g to create optimal stream ‘castability’ with braid or monofilament line and to be fishable on both medium & large sized rivers. The double split ring feature positions the lure's BKK No.4 treble hook perfectly in the underside centre area of the lure which remains stable during the retrieve for an effective ‘hook up’ ratio.

How To Fish

This lure should be fished with an initial 'tightish' clutch setting (to set the hook properly) then loosen off the reel clutch slightly to play the fish. In faster streams this lure can be fished around with only line tension without a steady retrieve (until nearing the end) or in slower moving pools it can be fished with a slightly upstream 'squarish' cast paired with a steady retrieve to create a perfect 'not too fast & not too slow' curving swing. In deeper pools where heavyweight trout are holding deep this lure can be counted down for 2 - 6 seconds (depending on the pool depth) for a deeper lure swim retrieve. The key for effective spin fishing water coverage is to make sure the angle and distance of cast are consistent throughout the fishing day and as importantly, making sure each casting position is separated by 1 x rod length while fishing downstream (or upstream). It is really your boots that catch gamefish while spin fishing if you think closely about it as good riverbank movement equates to ‘effective' water coverage which is the real key for success in all spin fishing approaches.
